Since 2002, World Savvy has impacted nearly 700,000 students and more than 5,000 teachers across 27 US states and 12 countries. The Role:
World Savvy seeks to hire an innovative, results-oriented Chief Growth Officer (CGO) with an entrepreneurial mindset who will identify, develop and execute growth strategies to support significant and sustainable scaling of the Organization. Reporting directly to the Co-Founder/CEO, this newly-created role oversees World Savvy’s integrated marketing, communications and revenue-generating functions. Blending storytelling, business development, cultivation, sales and strategy, the CGO collaborates widely throughout the Organization and partners closely with the CEO.

World Savvy’s revenue includes both earned income and philanthropic funding. Inspiring action and engagement, the CGO brings World Savvy’s story and impact to life for a wide range of audiences including educators, schools, communities, corporate sponsors, donors, foundations, peers, staff and volunteers. S/he will approach all revenue opportunities with a business development lens, collaborating to develop strategies that will increase and/or refine existing streams of revenue and explore new ones. The CGO will partner with the CEO to build and maintain a robust network of national funders, deepening existing relationships and cultivating new prospects. As such, the CGO is expected to travel approximately 40-50% of the time.

A key member of World Savvy’s executive leadership team, the CGO is an ambassador for the Organization, exuding joy for its mission and sparking that joy in others. This position is based in Minneapolis, Minnesota with regular travel expectations.

Ideal Candidate:
The successful candidate will have at least 10 years of professional experience in marketing, sales, business development, fundraising or similar roles. The ability to travel nationally up to 50% of the time is essential. Must have demonstrated, applicable success generating income, raising funds and/or growing businesses of a similar size or nature. Familiarity with philanthropic giving and/or nonprofit management is helpful, but not required. Work experience in the field of education is not required, but the successful candidate must have a strong personal belief in the power of education to change lives, a deep interest in international issues and a commitment to social justice.

A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is required. Technology skills that meet today’s workforce demands (Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Web conferencing, etc.) and the aptitude for self-sufficiency are necessities. Must have the proven ability to use educational technology and virtual tools to solve problems and work with others across geographical locations. Must demonstrate organizational and time-management skills, with the agility to develop solutions in a fast-paced, iterative growth environment. A professional demeanor, executive presence, and strong written, verbal and presentation skills are essential for this role. Must have a successful track record navigating the inherent ambiguity of a growth environment and leading others through change.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Business Development and Marketing
    • Significantly contribute to World Savvy’s long-term business planning.
    • Collaborate with leadership to identify, develop, oversee and/or evaluate all of World Savvy’s growth strategies.
    • Translate organizational strategies and objectives into timely, accurate, actionable plans. Deliver cogent reports and analyses to stakeholders including peers, staff and board members.
    • Facilitate sound, data-based business decisions that fully consider World Savvy’s mission and their impact on short-term and longer-term strategies.
    • Create and oversee an integrated marketing strategy that measurably raises awareness, builds and deepens relationships, increases programming engagement and supports the Organization’s growth and revenue initiatives.
    • Identify tactics, oversee execution and measure results of all marketing, communication and engagement efforts.

  • Revenue Leadership
    • Maintain accountability for the oversight of World Savvy’s national and regional revenue strategies, ensuring access to capital sufficient to support the Organization’s existing and future growth objectives. This includes:
      • Earned Revenue
        • Collaborate with peers/leaders to establish a sales model for programming that affords sustainable, multi-year engagement with, and support of, school partnerships.
        • Partner with the program and leadership team to collaboratively own the strategy of the customer life cycle and ensure school/teacher referrals.
        • Regularly evaluate and realign earned revenue model and target goals with current and future market realities, both nationally and regionally.
      • Philanthropic Funding
        • Oversee the development of fundraising strategy with strong focus on national foundations, corporate champions and major individual donors to support place-based work. Be the primary relationship holder for all national funders.
        • Lead and support development staff to ensure revenue growth goals are met.

  • People Leadership
    • As a member of its executive team, model World Savvy’s Values and Cultural Norms in the workplace as an ambassador, mentor, coach and colleague. Foster and support an inclusive, culturally competent work environment at all locations.
    • Shape and grow the newly-established regional Executive Director roles by supporting them as strong, competent leaders – enabling the development of their teams and removing barriers to their success.
    • Identify, mentor and develop talent for the future, leveraging others’ unique skills, motivations and interests to connect them with broader goals and strategies. Recruit and develop culturally diverse leaders and team members.
    • Support continuous improvement by sharing candid, timely and constructive feedback and providing accurate and actionable developmental guidance and coaching for staff.
    • Embrace the inherent fluidity of a smaller organization by demonstrating organizational agility, leading others through change with empathy and transparency.
