Erina Niwa - Global Competence Certificate Intern - SF

Erina Niwa was born and raised in Los Angeles, California, to a Japanese mother and Japanese American father. As a result, from a young age, she has been exposed to both Japanese and American cultures. Over the summer, she had the opportunity to work as an instructor for the Y-PLAN TOMODACHI program held at the University of California, Berkeley. There, 100 students from Japan came to Berkeley to understand the importance of civic planning, leadership, and becoming more knowledgeable about the numerous cultures in the U.S. This first-hand experience as an instructor has increased her interest in helping create the 21st century global citizen.
She is currently a junior attending UC Berkeley, pursuing a major in Political Economy and a minor in Japanese. In her spare time, she loves to try different types of food, play basketball and go hiking!
