Mai Kou was a participant of AYLP Bangladesh in 2011-12 and is now a student at Hamline University. She is majoring in business, with a concentration in international business, and minoring in nonprofit organization management.  Mai Kou stays busy outside of class working at Teavana and as a Personal Care Assistant at Infinity Home Healthcare Inc.

Due to not having enough time between school and work over the past year, I have not been able to be as much of a help to my community as I would like. That said, I do work at Teavana, where I help sell tea and merchandise. Through this job I am able to contribute something meaningful to my community. Teavana is a well-known company that partners with CARE –a national non-profit that works to serve individuals and families in the poorest communities in the world–  to help give back to those who cultivate and grow the tea in various places around the world. In addition, Teavana also collaborates with Oprah Winfrey; a portion of the profits made from each purchase of Oprah chai tea, tins, & drink is donated to one of Oprah’s many charities. Nevertheless, I do have plans for the near future. I plan on minoring in nonprofit organization management and hope to intern at TOMS or another service-minded for-profit in summer 2016. My dream is to own my own for-profit company.
