Exploring Global Issues through Cross-Cultural Exchange
Between 2011 and 2014, World Savvy hosted the American Youth Leadership Program (AYLP) with Bangladesh and Peru and the Youth Ambassadors Program (YAP) with Haiti in partnership with the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs at the US Department of State.
These exchanges united U.S. students and educators with international peers to explore one another’s culture and critical global issues such as climate change and food security. Youth and educators participating in the AYLP programs traveled to a foreign country to explore a current global issue and make connections to how local actions can have a global impact. Participants in the YAP with Haiti consisted of two cohorts: students and teachers from Haiti, and US students from the San Francisco Bay Area. The group explored issues related to climate change and learned how to affect change on a local, national and global scale. At present, World Savvy is not offering a travel exchange opportunity for US students but we plan to offer these programs again in the future. Sign up for our newsletter to stay informed!
