With over two decades of experience, Jana has worked in a wide range of educational settings and leadership positions. She started her career as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Dominican Republic, partnering with the Secretary of Education to conduct teacher trainings to support both best practices in early childhood education and bilingual programming. She has taught sixth grade, ESL K-12, and Spanish in elementary settings. In addition, she has extensive experience in school improvement, designing and delivering professional development, and program evaluation.
Jana most recently served as Executive Director of the Multilingual Department at Minneapolis Public Schools where she transformed the district’s support of English language learners and infused inclusive practices into all district academic programming. Under Jana’s leadership, English learner programming and staffing doubled to ensure excellent supports at every district site as well as adding immersion and heritage language programming to serve the increasingly diverse student body.
Jana believes that each school represents a unique web of relationships–which can be strengthened when educators feel a strong sense of connection, a shared vision and a coherent set of strategies. She enjoys working with schools teams to integrate global competence into their work with students and families.
