Marley Wertheimer

she • her • hers

Born in New York City and raised in Western Massachusetts, Marley drove cross country after graduating from Connecticut College. She has since called Oakland, California home for over a decade. It is there that her dynamic career in education began while fostering a passion for serving East Bay students of diverse ages and backgrounds. Marley continued her professional course as a teacher of World History & Cultures at a public charter Montessori high school in Hayward, with the goal of providing cost-free, alternative and equitable education to all students. During her tenure there, she earned her certification as an instructional coach, led the development of a culturally-responsive curriculum focused on strengthening teachers’ pedagogical skills, and launched a community-based student internship program. As program manager, she emphasized the importance of providing interns with both meaningful professional experiences as well as community service opportunities in dozens of local Bay Area partnerships. Marley believes it is crucial for education to take place both in and outside of traditional classroom walls, which includes rich immersive and project-based learning experiences, in order to prepare students to be globally-competent citizens.

Marley holds a CA State Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential, Montessori Secondary I&II Credential as well as a Masters in Education (M.Ed). She serves annually on school accreditation teams, is a member of the Montessori Life Editorial Board and is also a published writer. Outside of the education sphere, Marley partners with professional pastry chefs in the Bay Area to organize large-scale Bake Sale fundraisers, benefiting organizations such as Planned Parenthood, The New Georgia Project, and AAPI Women Lead.

World Savvy’s emphasis on service learning, global education, and knowledge-to-action is what drew Marley to join the team in 2021. She cannot wait to collaborate and innovate in order to make further positive impact.

When she’s not working, you can find Marley swimming, baking, doing yoga or lounging with a dog by her feet.
