World Savvy Joins with Southern New Hampshire University to Expand Its Global Competence Certificate Program
May 14, 2019

World Savvy is excited to announce a new partnership for their Global Competence Certificate (GCC) with Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU).

Southern New Hampshire University is one of the fastest growing universities in the country, with over 90,000 online students and an alumni network of 84,000. A private, nonprofit, accredited institution, SNHU is an award-winning provider of distance learning.

Wendy Baker, SNHU’s Executive Director of Advanced Studies, said of the partnership,

“We, at SNHU, are inspired by the leadership World Savvy provides in the global education field, and we’re excited to partner with them to offer broader access to the Global Competence Certificate to educators throughout the country. Powered by World Savvy’s expertise, the professional development embedded in this certificate has the opportunity to dramatically impact the development of our citizenship. SNHU is proud to partner in this exciting work.”

Launched by World Savvy in 2014, the Global Competence Certificate (GCC) is the first-of-its-kind, online, graduate-level certificate program in global competence education for teachers. The GCC program is designed specifically for in-service educators who are interested in embedding global learning into their teaching practice and preparing their students for the complex reality beyond the classroom.

The GCC itself is a reflection of an interconnected and global society. It uses an innovative learning model that combines online academic coursework with immersive global fieldwork, structured collaborative practice work, and a capstone project; and is taught by interdisciplinary experts across the country.

As part of their coursework, students will have the opportunity to participate in an 18-day immersive global fieldwork experience during the summer of 2020 in one of three locations — Cuetzalan, Mexico, Chirapa, Peru, or Odienya, Kenya — working with community leaders and elders to support local development initiatives. With this partnership, the Global Competence Certificate will expand from a 12-credit to a 15-credit program.

Graduates of the program will receive 15 graduate credits and a graduate-level Certificate in Global Competence from Southern New Hampshire University that they may use to document their advanced qualification to effectively teach for global competence. World Savvy is a national education nonprofit reimagining K-12 education. They work with schools and communities to ensure all kids are ready for our complex global future. We’re seeking out additional partnerships with institutions of higher education. If you’d like to bring the Global Competence Certificate to your school, get in touch!
