The Power of Interconnections: A World Savvy Partnership

The Power of Interconnections: A World Savvy Partnership
June 18, 2019

At World Savvy partner school, FAIR School in Minneapolis, economics educators planned an economics unit integrating one of World Savvy’s Case Studies entitled Food Deserts. The focus of this unit examined food insecurity and how economic principles have and do intentional design of the food landscape.  Students examined food security and humans, communities and populations that are experiencing food security. Students discovered how supply and demand are integral within food market pricing, they examined how housing policy impacts food distribution and how food security is integral to human health. Students highlighted the truly interconnected nature of this global and local challenge – making classroom learning relevant, engaging and meaningful to the issues they see impacting people who live in the Twin Cities.
